Acupuncture FAQ

About Our Services & Products

  • What acupuncture services do you provide?

At our clinic, we offer a variety of acupuncture services tailored to meet the unique needs of our clients. This includes traditional acupuncture which involves the insertion of thin needles at specific points in the body to restore balance and promote healing. We also offer electric acupuncture where a small electric current is passed between pairs of acupuncture needles. This method is particularly effective for pain relief and muscle spasms.

In addition to these, we also practice moxa with acupuncture, a treatment that combines acupuncture with moxibustion - a form of heat therapy. Moxa is made from dried mugwort and is used to warm regions and acupuncture points with the intention of stimulating circulation and inducing a smoother flow of blood and qi. We also offer cupping therapy, a technique that uses small glass cups to create suction on the skin to promote healing. Finally, we have infra-red treatment, a therapy that uses wavelengths of light to improve circulation and repair damaged tissues.

  • What does acupuncture treat?

Acupuncture is a versatile treatment that can address a wide range of health issues. Our clinic specializes in women's health, fertility, metabolic issues, and pain management. Acupuncture can effectively treat conditions like irregular menstruation, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, and hormonal imbalances that affect fertility. It can also assist with weight management and help manage conditions such as diabetes and high cholesterol.

Moreover, acupuncture is an effective pain management tool. It can be used to alleviate chronic pain, including lower back pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, and neck pain. In addition to these, acupuncture can also treat digestive issues like indigestion and chronic constipation. It's also useful for managing stress and promoting better sleep, making it a holistic treatment option for overall wellness. Remember, we are not just an acupuncture clinic; we are a holistic primary care clinic specializing in women’s health.

  • Do you do facial acupuncture?

Yes, we do provide facial acupuncture services at our clinic. Facial acupuncture is a natural, non-surgical method for improving skin health and appearance. It involves inserting very fine needles into various points on the face to stimulate the body's healing response. This treatment can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, diminish fine lines, and improve skin tone.

However, it's important to note that facial acupuncture is not considered a medically necessary procedure. Therefore, it's usually not covered by insurance. Despite this, many clients opt for facial acupuncture due to its effectiveness in promoting healthier, more radiant skin. It's a safe, natural alternative to invasive cosmetic procedures and can provide noticeable results over time.

  • What kind of herbs do you sell? What kind of herbal products do you sell?

We offer two types of traditional Chinese medicine herbal products. The first type is raw traditional Chinese herbs. These are whole herbs that need to be cooked and then consumed as a tea or infusion. The preparation process can be quite involved, but many people find it to be a rewarding part of their wellness routine.

On the other hand, we also carry extract granule supplements. These are a convenient option, as they only need to be stirred into hot water and consumed like a tea. They provide the same benefits as raw herbs but in a more accessible format. In terms of cost, the granule supplements are generally cheaper than raw herbs, making them a popular choice among our clients.

  • Do you practice Function Medicine and sell supplements?

Indeed, we do practice Functional Medicine at our clinic. We appreciate the overlaps of goals and theories between Functional Medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Both approaches strive to treat the individual as a whole, rather than just addressing isolated symptoms. Functional Medicine uses a systems-oriented approach, looking at the underlying causes of disease and focusing on patient-centered care.

As part of our Functional Medicine practice, we also sell a variety of supplements from reputable brands, including Standard Process, MediHerb, and Pure. These supplements are designed to support various aspects of health, from digestion and detoxification to immune support and energy production. They can be an excellent addition to a comprehensive wellness plan.

  • What should I be prepared for the first acupuncture appointment?

Before your first acupuncture appointment, we will send you a link to our patient portal. We recommend that you fill in your personal information and submit any relevant medical records through this portal prior to your appointment. This allows us to review your health history and better prepare for your visit.

On the day of your appointment, we suggest wearing warm, loose-fitting clothes. Acupuncture points are located all over the body, including on the feet, legs, hands, wrists, back, shoulders, and neck. Loose clothing will allow easy access to these points without requiring you to undress. Remember, acupuncture is a relaxing experience, so it's important to feel comfortable during your session. We look forward to welcoming you to our clinic and helping you on your journey towards better health.

About Payments

  • Do you take insurance?

Yes, we do accept insurance. However, it depends on the specific type of insurance you have. We are in-network providers for major insurances such as United Health Care, UMR, and Cigna. These insurances typically cover a significant portion of our services.

In the case of Medicare, we do not directly accept it because they do not pay out-of-network providers. But, if you have a United Health Care supplement plan alongside your Medicare, we can definitely accept that. For other insurance providers like Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Aetna, etc., we serve as out-of-network providers. The coverage in this case depends on your individual plan's deductibles and acupuncture benefits. We can assist you in understanding your coverage before the treatment begins to make the process smoother and more transparent.

  • If I don't have insurance, how much does it cost?

If you don't have insurance, our rates are still quite competitive. An acupuncture session costs between $100-150 for a 30-60 minutes visit. For acute pain, you might require 1 to 3 sessions. However, for chronic issues, we usually recommend 6-10 sessions or more.

The cost of herbs is separate, coming in at an additional $10-20 per day. We understand that healthcare can be expensive, so we offer discounts on packages to make our services more accessible. Remember, investing in your health now can prevent more serious and costly health issues down the line. We're here to provide quality care and help you maintain optimal health.

About Medical Issues We Treat

  • How do you treat low back pain?

At Herb4Us & Acupuncture, we have a comprehensive approach to treating low back pain. Our initial step is identifying the painful muscles through a thorough examination. We then apply acupuncture on the lower back and related points which helps in alleviating the pain.

In addition to acupuncture, we also offer physical therapy sessions. We educate our patients about good postures and provide them with a series of at-home exercises. These techniques help strengthen the muscles and maintain overall back health. We understand that regular visits may not be feasible for everyone, hence, we also offer at-home healing devices, heat pads, herbal balms, and patches to aid in your healing process.

  • How does fertility acupuncture work?

Fertility acupuncture works by enhancing the body's natural ability to conceive. For those attempting natural conception, acupuncture can improve egg quality, uterus lining, overall energy, mood, digestion, and provide nutritional support. It essentially works on improving the overall health of the woman.

For those undergoing IVF procedures at fertility centers, fertility acupuncture can also help alleviate some of the side effects of the treatments. Statistics show that the success rate of regular fertility treatment is about 50%. However, when acupuncture and herbs are combined, the success rate increases significantly. Many patients have reported feeling more successful and less stressed with holistic treatment.

  • Do you treat men's infertility or libido problems?

Yes, at Herb4Us & Acupuncture, we offer treatments for men's health issues, including infertility and libido problems. Our treatments focus on improving sperm quality, which is crucial for fertility.

Our goal is to help our patients regain their confidence and lead a healthy and satisfying life.

  • Do you treat children?

Yes, we do. At Herb4Us & Acupuncture, we have experience in treating a variety of health issues in children. We've successfully treated babies for eczema and school-aged children with digestive issues, sinus issues, and allergies.

For children with autism or ADHD, we provide acupuncture and herbal treatments that can help them focus, calm down, eat better, and reduce constipation. We also offer treatments for teenagers who may be dealing with period cramping, acne, and depression. Our approach is holistic and tailored to the individual needs of each child.

We understand that each woman's experience with menopause is unique, and we tailor our treatments accordingly.

  • How do you treat seniors?

We are proud to provide treatments for seniors at Herb4Us & Acupuncture. We are in network with On Lok Lifeways senior centers, which is one of the Medicare contractors. Our treatments are designed to address the specific health concerns of seniors, with a focus on improving quality of life. We believe in taking a holistic approach to senior health, addressing not only physical symptoms but also emotional and mental well-being.

  • If I'm just easy to feel fatigue or with no particular disease, can you help me?

Yes, we can. At Herb4Us & Acupuncture, we refer to this as sub-optimal health. Chinese medicine excels at recognizing patterns and helping individuals strengthen themselves. Our aim is to make our patients feel younger and more energetic.

Our comprehensive nutritional consultation is designed to help you understand the kind of diet and exercise that fits your lifestyle and boosts your health. This approach has helped many people with metabolic issues, like pre-diabetes or elevated cholesterol but not taking medicine.

  • I can't go to sleep easily. I also wake up several times at night. Can you treat that?

Absolutely. Insomnia is a common problem, and at Herb4Us & Acupuncture, we have treated many patients successfully. With one or two acupuncture sessions per week, you can see significant changes in your sleep pattern within a few weeks.

For more severe cases, we recommend adding herbal treatment to the acupuncture sessions. Our treatments aim to restore balance to your system, helping you achieve a good night's sleep. Your overall well-being is our priority, and we are here to provide the best possible care to improve your sleep and quality of life.
